How the price is worked out
Gold and silver trade worldwide in US dollars per troy ounce. This page takes that international spot price, converts it to your currency using the latest exchange rate, and divides it into grams. Lower karats are shown by multiplying the 24K price by karat ÷ 24, so 22K is 91.67% of the 24K price.
Reading the table
- Per gram is the unit most jewellers in the Gulf, India and Pakistan quote for karat gold.
- Per tola is the traditional South Asian unit, 11.664 grams.
- Silver 999 is pure silver. Silver 925 is sterling silver, the usual jewellery grade.
- The local market adjustment lets you match your city: if shops sell about 2% above the international price, enter 2.
Good to know before you buy or sell
- Shop prices include making charges, wastage and taxes that are not part of the metal price.
- When you sell, buyers pay a little under the market rate. Compare two or three quotes.
- Prices move during the day. Press Refresh live price for the latest figure.
Frequently asked questions
Where do these prices come from?
Gold and silver spot prices (the international price per troy ounce in US dollars) are converted into your currency with a daily exchange rate. Prices are refreshed about every 30 minutes while you use the page.
Why is my jeweller's rate different?
Local markets add a premium or discount to the international price for import duty, taxes, demand and the jeweller's margin. In many countries the shop price is a few percent above spot. Type that difference in the local adjustment box (for example 3) and every figure updates.
What is the difference between 24K, 22K, 21K and 18K gold?
Karat tells you how pure the gold is: karat ÷ 24. 24K is about 99.9% pure, 22K is 91.67%, 21K is 87.5%, 18K is 75% and 14K is 58.3%. A lower karat costs less per gram because it contains less gold.
How many grams are in a tola?
One tola is 11.664 grams (a little less than half an ounce). A troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, so an ounce is about 2.67 tola.
Can I use these prices for Zakat?
Yes, they are a good starting point for valuing your gold and silver. Your Zakat dashboard can fetch them for you automatically, and the Zakat calculator explains the Nisab. Please confirm details with a qualified scholar.
What if the live price does not load?
If your connection or the price service is down, type today's 24K price per gram in the box yourself and the page will work out all the karats, tolas and silver from it.
