Reading the result
Lines starting with + in green exist only in the changed text. Lines starting with - in red exist only in the original. Unmarked lines are the same in both.
Tips
- Format JSON first with the JSON formatter so every key sits on its own line.
- Clean lists with remove duplicate lines before comparing.
- Use the word counter to see how much a document changed in length.
Frequently asked questions
How does the comparison work?
It finds the longest set of lines the two texts share (the longest common subsequence) and marks everything else as added or removed. It compares whole lines, not single words.
What does ignoring case or spaces do?
With the options on, lines that differ only by capital letters or spaces at the start or end are treated as the same, so tiny edits do not clutter the result.
Is there a size limit?
Up to about 2,000 lines per text. Longer texts are better compared in a code editor or with the git diff command.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The comparison runs in your browser.
