Frequently asked questions

What are the 99 Names of Allah?

They are the beautiful names (Asma ul Husna) by which Allah is described in the Quran and the Sunnah, such as Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful) and Al-Ghafur (The Great Forgiver).

Is there a hadith about the 99 names?

Yes. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that Allah has ninety-nine names, one hundred less one, and whoever preserves (ahsaha) them will enter Paradise (Bukhari and Muslim).

Why do some lists differ?

The hadith does not itself list the names. Scholars compiled lists from the Quran and Sunnah, and the common list, from the narration in Tirmidhi, differs a little from other lists. Allah's names are also not limited to 99.

How should I learn them?

Learn a few each week, read the meaning, and use them in du'a. This page shows a different name each day to make it easy.

How do I use the name of the day?

The highlighted card changes every day. Read it, think about its meaning and, if you wish, count it with the tasbeeh counter.
