About the names of the Prophet
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "I have several names: I am Muhammad, I am Ahmad, I am Al-Mahi through whom Allah erases disbelief, I am Al-Hashir at whose feet people will be gathered, and I am Al-Aqib" (Bukhari and Muslim). Scholars have collected many more names and titles from the Quran and the hadith, each describing a quality of his character or mission, such as mercy, truthfulness, guidance and trust.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a fixed list of 99 names of the Prophet?
No. Unlike the 99 Names of Allah, no hadith gives a fixed list of 99 names for the Prophet (peace be upon him). This is a popular list of his names and titles gathered from the Quran, the hadith and well-known works such as Dala'il al-Khayrat. Other lists differ a little, and he has more than 99 names and titles.
Which of his names are in the hadith?
Muhammad, Ahmad, Al-Mahi, Al-Hashir and Al-Aqib are reported in Bukhari and Muslim. Muslim also reports Al-Muqaffi, Nabi at-Tawbah and Nabi ar-Rahmah. Many other titles come from descriptions in the Quran, such as the Shining Lamp, the Warner and the Bringer of Good News.
Why are Ar-Rauf and Ar-Rahim in the list?
Allah describes the Prophet in the Quran (9:128) as compassionate and merciful. These words are used for him in a human sense, and they are not the same as the Names of Allah, which belong to Allah alone.
What do I say when I hear his name?
Muslims send blessings on him, saying sallallahu alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), or the shorter PBUH in English.
How do I use the name of the day?
The highlighted card changes every day. Read it, think about its meaning and, if you wish, send blessings on the Prophet with the tasbeeh counter.
