How the marks percentage calculator works
Add each subject with the marks you obtained and the total marks of that paper. The tool adds all obtained marks, adds all total marks and divides: percentage = total obtained ÷ total marks × 100. It then looks up your grade in the band table. Subjects left blank are ignored, and a subject with obtained marks above the total is flagged.
Example grade bands
Most Matric and Intermediate boards use bands close to: A1 at 80 percent and above, A at 70, B at 60, C at 50, D at 40 and E at 33, which is the usual pass mark. These can differ between boards and change from year to year, which is why every band in the table is editable and your changes are saved on your phone.
Handy tips
- For Matric, enter the full marks of each paper (for example 75 for a theory paper plus 25 practical, or 100 combined).
- Use "What do I need?" before the final papers to plan how many marks you must score.
- Merit for college admission is often calculated with extra weightage, such as MDCAT or entry test marks, so use this only for the board percentage.
The calculator does not change your official result. Always rely on your board's result card and notification.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate percentage from marks?
Percentage = obtained marks ÷ total marks × 100. For example 870 out of 1100 is 870 ÷ 1100 × 100 = 79.09 percent.
Are these the exact grades of my board?
They are typical bands, not an official table. Boards and schools use similar ranges but may differ at the edges. You can edit the minimum percentage, grade and remark in the band table.
What are the passing marks?
Most boards need 33 percent in each subject for Matric and Intermediate, and many need 33 percent overall. Check your board's rules because practical papers and some subjects can differ.
Can I use this for university or monthly tests?
Yes. Add each paper with its own total, for example quiz 18 out of 20, mid 24 out of 30. The overall percentage uses the sum of obtained marks divided by the sum of total marks.
How do I find the marks needed in the remaining papers?
Open the 'What do I need?' section, enter your target percentage and the total marks of the remaining papers. The tool shows the marks required and tells you if the target is still possible.
