How the sizes are matched
All sizes are tied to the foot length, plus about 1 cm of room in the shoe. EU size is that inside length Γ 1.5, and UK adult size counts one third of an inch per size. US men's is UK + 1, and US women's is UK + 2.5. Children's sizes use their own UK scale and US kids' is UK + 1.
Getting a good fit
- Leave about a thumb's width between your longest toe and the end of the shoe.
- Try on shoes at the end of the day and with the socks you will wear.
- For other measurements, such as height or weight, use the unit converter.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert UK shoe sizes to US?
For men, add 1 to the UK size to get the US size. For women, the US size is about 2.5 above the UK size. A UK 7 is a US 8 for men and about US 9.5 for women.
How do I measure my foot length?
Stand on a sheet of paper, mark the longest toe and the back of the heel, then measure the distance in centimetres. Measure in the evening, when feet are slightly larger, and use the bigger foot.
Why do sizes differ between brands?
There is no single worldwide standard. Each brand uses its own last (the foot-shaped mould) and fit. Use this as a starting point and check the brand's own size chart when you can.
Do men's and women's shoe sizes differ?
In the US, a women's size is about 1.5 sizes bigger than the men's size for the same foot. In the UK and EU the same number is used for both, apart from brand differences.
What is the EU size based on?
The EU (Paris point) system counts two-thirds of a centimetre per size. It is roughly the length of the shoe's inside in centimetres times 1.5.
